<p>When the New Year&#039;s resolution calls for getting in shape fast, joining a gym and pushing yourself hard every day probably won&#039;t happen. What will work? Having someone scream, &#034;Drop and give me 20!&#034;</p>
<p><a  href="http://www.fitnessbootcampscanada.com/">Fitness boot camps</a> may be one of the fastest ways to go from zero to fit. The setup is simple enough: A trainer leads a group of clients through an intense hour of cardio and functional-strength training. The secret lies in the circuit-style workout that toggles between cardio and muscle building. This leaves little if any down time, and the shuffling of routines prevents boredom and exercise ruts. For people willing to put in the work, <a  href="http://www.fitnessbootcampscanada.com">boot camps</a> enable exercisers to see results quickly, the better to stay motivated.</p>
<p>&#034;It&#039;s a very efficient workout because you&#039;re working your whole body in a short period of time,&#034; says Cedric Bryant, chief science officer for the American Council on Exercise. &#034;It&#039;s fun, and the exercises are different, so you&#039;re not going to get bored.&#034;</p>
<p>Los Angeles-based actor Ed Stanley made his New Year&#039;s resolution to get fit a year ago, joining Boot Camp L.A., a nearly decade-old program that takes place six days a week at the park by the Page Museum on the Miracle Mile. Stanley wasn&#039;t happy with the ever-increasing size of his waist.</p>
<p>&#034;I knew that I needed to be accountable,&#034; he says. &#034;But I didn&#039;t expect it to be fun. It&#039;s challenging, but it&#039;s also fun.&#034;</p>
<p>He now takes pride in pushing himself to achieve athletic goals he didn&#039;t think possible. &#034;I never thought of myself as an athlete,&#034; he says. &#034;But I ran a 5K within a month of starting boot camp. And I thought, &#039;I really have to start looking at what I tell myself.&#039; &#034;</p>
<p>Stanley says he lost about 15 pounds in two months. &#034;After about three weeks, I looked in the mirror and noticed my body was starting to transform.&#034;</p>
<p><strong>Teammates</strong></p>
<p><a  href="http://www.fitnessbootcampscanada.com/">Boot camps</a> have some special features. Many are held outdoors and often incorporate common environmental features such as stairs or ledges for cardio as well as functional exercises using only body weight or free weights. Encouragement comes not just from the instructor but also from the other participants, who cheer and clap for fellow campers. And people are often paired or grouped for friendly competitions, fostering a camaraderie and support not usually found in regular fitness classes.</p>
<p>That camaraderie strengthens with time, establishing accountability, something fitness experts say is essential for sticking with a program. After you establish a presence in the program, other participants expect you to show up &#8212; and they may call if you don&#039;t. While some people sign up for only one or two monthlong sessions to get in decent shape before moving onto other sports and activities, others stay for years. Weight loss depends on diet, metabolism and how much effort is put into class, but can be maintained by continuing to take part in boot camp, or segueing into something else.</p>
<p>&#034;It definitely helps push people,&#034; says Allan Fine, <a  href="http://www.fitnessbootcampscanada.com">Fitness Boot Camps Canada</a> founder in Calgary Alberta. &#034;If we&#039;re doing stair drills and someone is tired, someone else will say, &#039;Let&#039;s go slowly, and I&#039;ll go with you.&#039; &#034;</p>
<p>&#034;I&#039;ve seen people say, &#039;I&#039;ll see you here tomorrow&#039; &#8212; and they shake on it,&#034; says Fine, who has been at the helm of FBCC&#039;s Bootcamp in Calgary since 2004. He&#039;s expanded his boot camp to other locations (where sessions are led by other instructors) and a series of DVDs, but he still commands the troops at his indoor studio, putting men and women through their grueling but enthusiastic paces every day.</p>
<p>&#034;Boot camp means commitment,&#034; Fine says. &#034;You can join a gym and not go, but if you sign up for boot camp for a month it tells you where to be five days a week. The workout is hard, but you could never do this on your own. You can&#039;t go to the gym and duplicate this.&#034;</p>
<p>Some newcomers, or potential newcomers, are intimidated by the programs. Fine says they shouldn&#039;t be.</p>
<p>Classes are filled with many first-timers or people who haven&#039;t exercised in a while, especially in January, he points out. &#034;This is not triathlete boot camp; this is regular-people boot camp. If you were in great shape, you&#039;d be the trainer,&#034; says Fine, adding he modifies exercises for those with bad knees or weak backs.</p>
<p>Boot camps do share one thing with other fitness programs: muscle soreness.</p>
<p>That probably can&#039;t be avoided, but, Fine says, it shouldn&#039;t be bad enough to derail fitness plans. &#034;The fact is, if you haven&#039;t done anything, there&#039;s no way around being sore. It&#039;s something everyone has to go through. But if you&#039;re feeling like you can&#039;t get out of bed, you can. The first week is the worst week, but after that you&#039;re going to feel great. Take a couple of Advil.&#034;</p>
<p>Despite the moniker, most boot camps aren&#039;t anything like the real deal. Instructors may be tough and demanding, but we don&#039;t call clients &#034;maggot&#034; and push people until they vomit.</p>
<p>Fine has a 22 year background as a Fitness and life coach.</p>
<p><strong>Old dogs, new tricks</strong></p>
<p>Boot camps have become such an indelible part of the fitness culture, having proved their get-you-into-shape-fast effectiveness over the last decade or so, they&#039;ve spawned a host of variations. Boot camps take advantage of the sand and water; <a  href="http://www.fitnessbootcampscanada.com/bridal.html">bridal boot camps</a> help brides fit into their gowns. Some are geared toward women, children or seniors, and others are sports-specific. Each location and instructor brings a different environment or atmosphere.</p>
<p>Finding a suitable boot camp may take a few tries &#8212; the setting may feel uncomfortable or the instructor might not be a good fit. If you&#039;d really rather slug the instructor or if you&#039;re bored by him or her, the class won&#039;t do much good. Although instructors should do a health screening for new students, participants themselves should be up front about any injuries or chronic conditions.</p>
<p>Fine says boot camp is not something to be entered into lightly &#8212; preparation is key. &#034;Make sure you get adequate rest and that you get adequate nutrition &#8212; those things are going to impact how enjoyable the actual workout is going to be.&#034;</p>
<p>He adds that über-competitive former athlete types may need to check their egos at the door. &#034;They need to be man or woman enough to back off and not attempt to keep up with everyone. Maybe you don&#039;t do every exercise that everyone else is doing, and you can&#039;t be so prideful that you say, &#039;I&#039;m going to do it even if it kills me.&#039; &#034;</p>
<p>&#034;That you continue to show up and enjoy it is half the battle,&#034; Allan says. &#034;It&#039;s hard, yes, but people are having a great time.&#034;</p>

<p>This holiday season, Julia Grieve plans to keep her energy levels high and weight gain at bay. But don&#039;t think that the 38-year-old mother and chief executive officer of Preloved &#8212; a popular line of redesigned vintage clothing &#8212; intends to avoid holiday socializing.</p>
<p>With a little strategic planning that includes an early morning jog three times a week, Grieve aims to go out, eat right and feel great.</p>
<p>As a Toronto-based mother of three children under 10, Grieve says she has no time to feel sluggish.</p>
<p>&#034;For me now, it&#039;s about how I feel. I can&#039;t feel hungover or bloated after a night out.&#034;</p>
<p>But she admits she didn&#039;t always plan towards a healthy holiday season.</p>
<p>&#034;I always go to a lot of parties and I never used to think about it. But without fail, I would suffer in January. You put on five or 10 pounds and you don&#039;t really feel so great,&#034; she says.</p>
<p>Many people deal with the yuletide season by eating and drinking their way mindlessly through the holidays, according to Nicole Springle, a registered dietitian at Cleveland Clinic Canada in Toronto.</p>
<p>Alternatively, they&#039;ll rationalize their eating in ways that are counter to their bodies&#039; needs.</p>
<p>&#034;People will skip meals for a big meal,&#034; Springle says. &#034;Or they&#039;ll go to a party after work and haven&#039;t had anything between lunch and the party. Then, they&#039;re starving so they&#039;ll fill up on high-calorie food.&#034;</p>
<p>Springle says it&#039;s important to eat regular, balanced meals and snacks throughout the day to maintain blood sugar levels and avoid cravings of the sweet and salty kind.</p>
<p>She encourages skipping the seasonal sweets and snacking regularly on protein mixed with complex, fibre-rich carbohydrates such as dried fruit and nuts or an apple and some low fat cheese, and sticking to the four food groups at meal time.</p>
<p>Calgary life coach and personal trainer Allan Fine suggests not only eating regularly but having a small meal before heading out to a party.</p>
<p>&#034;If you show up hungry, your chances of overeating are huge,&#034; he says.</p>
<p>Fine also points out the common problem of sweets and leftovers from holiday festivities being passed around the workplace.</p>
<p>&#034;People will give you tons of sweets this time of year. Have one or two, that&#039;s fine, but don&#039;t stand by the water cooler with a buddy eating a box of them,&#034; he says.</p>
<p>A little self-supervision can go a long way in the battle of the holiday bulge. But it&#039;s tough to stick to a plan when you&#039;re being pressured to consume for weeks on end.</p>
<p>What do you say to your mother-in-law during Christmas dinner when you haven&#039;t cleaned your plate?</p>
<p>&#034;Tell her &#039;I&#039;m stuffed, can I take it home?&#039;&#034; Fine says. &#034;Don&#039;t worry about eating everything in one meal. The thing you want to avoid saying is &#039;I&#039;m stuffed, roll me out of here.&#039;&#034;</p>
<p>And be prepared to plan ahead, says Springle.</p>
<p>&#034;Allow yourself to have treats but think about it beforehand. How much will I have? What is OK? If you go in with one plan, it&#039;s easier to stick to.&#034;</p>
<p>But it&#039;s not all about the food we consume, it&#039;s also about the energy we burn off. And although people might struggle with the hectic pace of the holiday season, Fine says there&#039;s always time to integrate exercise into the mix.</p>
<p>&#034;Don&#039;t wait until New Year&#039;s,&#034; Fine says. &#034;There&#039;s no reason not to join a gym now.&#034;</p>
<p>If you&#039;re not a gym person, it&#039;s important to find other ways to stay active. Fine encourages people to join a group fitness program or hire a personal trainer instead.</p>
<p>Even if you hate formal exercise programs, there are still ways to keep your body moving.</p>
<p>Take the stairs in your office building instead of using the elevator and don&#039;t park close to work, Fine suggests.</p>
<p>The bottom line?</p>

<p>You&#039;re at a party and the food and drinks are coming at you in all directions. Rather than accept everything you&#039;re offered, follow these tips to make wise and waist-friendly choices &#8212; and still enjoy a few indulgences along the way.</p>
<p>- If you arrive at a party hungry, try to fill your plate initially with fruits and vegetables (this will help fill you up so you won&#039;t be tempted to eat too many truffles or tarts).</p>
<p>- A soup or a salad will also help fill you up at the beginning of a meal.</p>
<p>- At a cocktail party, don&#039;t stand by the appetizer table or you may find yourself eating mindlessly.</p>
<p>- Decide ahead of time what appetizers and desserts you&#039;re going to sample, and stick to your plan.</p>
<p>- Try not to eat off the trays at a buffet table, and limit yourself to one plate only.</p>
<p>- Be attentive to what you eat. Savour the food and enjoy it but don&#039;t just keep your hands busy while mingling.</p>
<p>- Monitor your drinking. Thirst is often mistaken for hunger.</p>
<p>- Alcoholic drinks can be high in calories. Pace yourself with water.</p>
<p>- The body takes about 20 minutes to feel full. If you&#039;re racing through your plate, you&#039;re not giving yourself time to feel full.</p>
<p>- Research shows the first bite and the last bite are the most enjoyable; the rest is filler. You probably don&#039;t need as much as you think.</p>

goes off to Taylor Lautner from the new movie New Moon who got into<br />
outstanding condition for his role as Jacob Black. What really struck home<br />
was the reaction of all the younger girls whispering and giggling when<br />
a shirtless Taylor appeared. I could even sense an energy amongst the young males in the<br />
crowd who could relate to the fit actor on screen who gained about 30 pounds of muscle<br />
mass for this role.</p>
<p>There have been a lot of actors who have got into great shape for blockbuster movies&#8230;<br />
Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Brad Pitt and Daniel Craig but not actors for Generation<br />
Y that younger guys could connect with at a deeper level. I don&#039;t think young teens can<br />
relate to Arnold in Terminator or Brad Pitt in Troy but I believe Taylor will change that<br />
in New Moon. You&#039;re going to see a lot more young movie stars muscling up in 2010 and<br />
inspiring a younger generation of teens to muscle up and get fit.</p>

<p>The boot camp trend is going to continue to rise and compete successfully against<br />

<h2>The Top Fitness and life New Years Resolutions which affect most People!</h2>

<p>Every year it seems that the same Top Fitness and life  New Year resolutions crop up. Why? It&#039;s obvious. Because they are just so hard to keep! I have trouble keeping my resolutions, but this time I&#039;m determined to finally do better. It&#039;s the same old thing . Knowing doesn&#039;t matter. Like knowing how to lose weight doesn&#039;t seem to matter at all.</p>
<p>Success is not an accident, it begins with a well-conceived plan. You can and will achieve more in the next year than you have in the past with a great plan of action. Then by taking action you can and will succeed!. By investing your efforts into a New Years Resolution, you give yourself a launch pad for starting your new year and your new life.</p>
<p>This year I&#039;m determined to try harder and I plan to succeed. The only two resolutions listed below that I was able to keep in 2009, were to  organize myself and to get more exercise.At least I made a great improvement over my 2008 attempts. As for smoking,  that is the #1 thing I would tell you to do , Quit Smoking!</p>

<p>While the advice to avoid this is not much different than the advice I give in other articles, here are some specific steps that will help you to either gain no weight at all, or minimize the weight that you do gain over the holidays.</p></div>

<div>Step <span>1</span></div>
<p>First, remember that holiday time always involves tons of sweets. You will likely receive many different types of sweets as gifts, as will your family members. Your workplace will likely be full of sweets everywhere you look. It is very hard to resist partaking in some, if not all of these. Make sure to pack your own snacks. It&#039;s OK to have 1 or 2 , but not the whole box.</li>

<div>Step <span>2</span></div>
<p>During times like this, it is even more important to eat all of your food mindfully. Just make it a point to be very much aware of everything that you are putting into your mouth. Don&#039;t just stand next to the water cooler chatting with a coworker while you pop truffles in your mouth that someone put out to share. Don&#039;t just gobble the whole box of chocolates that someone gave you just to &#034;finish the box.&#034; Eat slowly and mindfully.</li>
<li>
<div>Step <span>3</span></div>
<p>If someone gives you a gift of sweets, try to have the willpower to get them out of your house without even touching any. Consider bringing them to work or to your church to share, re-gift them or just walk into some charitable organization and hand it over with the the hopes that they will give it someone who doesn&#039;t have. If you feel obligated to sample some of what you were given, don&#039;t sample it at a time when you may end up eating the whole thing. Sample it right before you put it out in the break room at work, then quickly walk away.</li>

<div>Step <span>4</span></div>
<p>Be very aware of how calories work. A small truffle could easily have 100 calories. so 10 are 1000 calories that will just turn into fat .That&#039;s enough energy to run about a 10 miles. Will you really be running a mile (or 10 )after work? If you eat the whole box of truffles, something I know I could easily do, you could easily have enough energy to run an entire marathon. Will you be doing that? In a sense, calories are calories. If you eat too many sweets in a day, compensate for that by eating as low-calorie and as low-fat as you possibly can for the rest of the day. Also do as much exercise as you can, even if it&#039;s just marching in place while watching TV.</li>

<div>Step <span>5</span></div>
<p>Don&#039;t adopt a self-defeating and illogical mindset. Don&#039;t say, &#034;Well, my diet is already shot to hell, so I might as well eat all the candy.&#034; That is just silly. Don&#039;t say, &#034;OK, I&#039;ll just pig out between now and New Years Day, because on January 1 I am going to start the strictest diet that I&#039;ve ever been on in my life.&#034; There is nothing magical about Jan 1 as a good day to start a diet. The right time is right now, even if you just finished a whole box of cookies.</li>
<li>
<div>Step <span>6</span></div>
<p>Try to remember that even if you follow a diet perfectly, you will still only lose about 2 pounds per week on average (not counting initial water weight loss which doesn&#039;t involve fat loss). If you gain 10 pounds over the holidays, you are probably looking at at least 5 weeks of very strict dieting and exercise. Will you really do that, or will you get off track no later than Valentine&#039;s Day when more sweets come your way?</li>
<li>
<div>Step <span>7</span></div>
<p>It is very, very hard to not gain weight over the holidays, but you don&#039;t have to agree in advance that you will, which many people do. You can honestly sneak past the holidays with little or no weight gain. Just try to be mindful and in control, and remember that there is never a wrong moment to eat healthy and exercise. Each moment is a new beginning. Jan 1 is only a calendar year beginning. It is not the first moment of the rest of your life, which is right now.</li>
<li>Hire a trainer, it amazes me that people think of nothing to spend $3000 or $4000 on a 1 week vacation but won&#039;t consider hiring someone that can really show them how to to care of their health the rest of their lives.You have to look at it as a investment in your health and future. What would your life be like if you lost all the weight you wanted or really got in great shape?</li>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt 0.75in;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;">I’m not suggesting you have to go “crazy fanatical” about protecting yourself.<span> </span>The common sense things like – keeping your hands off your face, washing frequently (your hands), keeping a safe distance (6 ft.) away from sick people, and not sharing licks off your three year old’s Tootsie Pop – are more than adequate to give you a good chance of not getting the flu.<span> </span>Keeping those ugly viruses out of your body is what you trying to do.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-size: medium; color: #4f81bd; font-family: Cambria;">Sanity is in the knowing</span></h2>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt 0.75in;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;">So, how do you know if you have the flu and not some silly little cold (come on… a cold, that’s not sick!)?<span> </span>Actually, there are many similar symptoms that the common Calgary cold and flu share.<span> </span>If you give thought to it, you’ll realize that both are simply viral infections that have entered your body through mucous membranes of your nose, eyes, and/or mouth.<span> </span>Both the cold and flu affect the throat, can cause headaches, affect your sinuses and even may produce a fever.<span> </span>However, there are a few things that may be different.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 10pt 0in 0pt 0.75in;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;">Typically, the flu will come on much quicker than a cold.<span> </span>In most cases the symptoms will be more severe and last longer (watch out – a cold can be severe too).<span> </span>Additionally, the flu can pack a little extra fun &#8211; vomiting.<span> </span>And that’s not all!<span> </span>If it’s the flu, pneumonia may also be in the offering.<span> </span>If you perceive a shortness of breath when sick, it may do you good to see your Doctor as this could be a sign that pneumonia has come into play.<span> </span>As a matter of fact, if you are ever in doubt about what you have caught, do see your family doctor.</span></p>
<h3>Why is this flu different from other flus?</h3>
<p>There are thousands of different kinds of viruses that can cause the flu. New strains develop frequently and each one is different from the one before it. The seasonal flu is actually comprised of several different strains of flu. Swine flu is a new, different strain of virus.</p>
<h3>What are the swine flu stages I keep hearing about?</h3>
<p>The World Health Organization, WHO, developed a plan to respond to health emergencies, like swine flu, which have the potential to become pandemic. Each stage represents a different level of response. For example, Stage 4 means that the disease can no longer be contained inside any specific country, therefore governments must take steps to handle community spread of the disease. As of late spring 2009, H1N1 swine flu was labeled pandemic by WHO, meaning it had reached Stage 5. (You can <a  href="http://www.who.int/csr/disease/avian_influenza/phase/en/index.html" target="_blank">follow WHO swine flu staging</a> for changes and updates.)</p>

<p>As you can see from my video and my <a  href="http://www.seejoeshrink.com/" target="_blank">blog</a> I have lost over 45lbs of fat in only 2 months . Fitness                              boot Camps Canada and Allan Fine has changed my lifer                              for the better. I don&#039;t know if you can imagine what                              it&#039;s like to be only 27 years old and over 300lbs.                              When I went to see my doctor about it , it scared                              the shit out of me. I found the program online and                              signed up that day. I am now in the 280&#039;s and on my                              way down to 220 eventually.<br />
If you never thought you could do a boot camp your                              wrong. If I can anyone can. My advice is get off your                              rear end , stop listening to all the little voices                              in your head as to why you can&#039;t do it and get going.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Ive been in the <a  href="http://www.fitnessbootcampscanada.com" target="_blank">Boot Camp business</a> for about 5 years now.  In that time I&#039;ve seen<br />
So many people get into the Boot Camp Business.<br />
My goal was to help people lose weight and change their lives.</strong></p>
<p><strong>It still is, so I decided to write this article to make sure the public got educated so they would know the difference between a great fitness program and the ones that claimed to be great but aren&#039;t.</strong></p>

<p><span id="more-627"></span><strong>What criteria can you use to decide which boot camp program is best for you.</strong></p>
<p><strong>There are many fitness Boot Camp programs in Calgary.</strong></p>
<p><strong>What criteria can you use to decide which program is best for you.</strong></p>
<p><strong>1. Do they have a pre and post evaluation where they measure your body fat, inches and do before and after pictures. Many do not unfortunately, how can you assess if you have lost fat or muscle during your program. If your goal is to lose fat, lose weight and inches then if they don&#039;t measure those things how will you know?</strong></p>
<p><strong>2. Do they play music during your camp. Try this, sit there in silence for 1 minute only. Now imagine working out. Now imagine working out for 1-1/2 hours with dead silence except for the sound of others sweating and groaning.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Now imagine working out to great motivating high energy music. Which would you rather do?</strong></p>
<p><strong>3. Are they for beginners or only for advanced clients. I see many camps using sand bags or military style training using heavy wooden polls or dragging tires. This is VERY dangerous to the beginner. You will see injuries and you can hurt yourself very badly in these camps unless your already very fit. If your goal is to get in shape and lose weight and inches and you hurt yourself the very first week then how is that serving you.</strong></p>
<p><strong>4. Using body weight only. I have seen many camps using only clients body weight. This does NOT work for weight loss and only produces mild toning.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Your body has a inherent knowledge of whether or not your using extra resistance or your body weight only. If body weight training was truly effective why have so many people who are very over weight who do pushups and sit ups and walk all the time not lose tons of weight.</strong></p>
<p><strong>If 2 people ran a mile and one was 160 lbs and had a 60 lb knapsack and the other was 220 lbs who would work harder and burn more calories.</strong></p>

<p><strong>5. What kind of ongoing coaching or support do they offer. Most have none. If your program isn&#039;t working for you because you are eating poorly still they have no support systems in place for that. Some do though. Check them out!!</strong></p>
<p><strong>I hope this helps all of you get some clarification on what is out there.<br />

<p><strong>Stop trying to squeeze into clothes two sizes too small for you and learn the quickest way to burn fat so that you can actually fit in those jeans&#8230;</strong></p>
<p><strong>One of the reasons why people have a hard time getting into shape is because they think that losing weight is the same as losing body fat.  This is simply not true.  You must understand that when most diet or weight loss programs advertise losing a large amount of weight in a short period of time, they are not talking about losing body fat, they are talking about water weight.  They know that most people assume that when they lose weight they are burning fat so they roll with that.</strong></p>
<p><strong>So in reality they are not really lying to you, but they are only telling you half the truth by capitalizing on what you assume.  They will not tell you that you are not losing much fat because they know that you think you are because your scale goes down.  With that said, it is possible to lose a large amount of fat in a short period of time.</strong></p>
<p><strong>In order for fat loss to occur, your body must burn more calories than it takes in, but keep in mind that your body needs calories for energy and when you exercise; your body needs even more calories. Before I talk about energy, the first thing you must understand is that fat loss and weight loss is not the same thing. Just because you lose weight, does not mean you lose fat, and just because you lose fat, does not mean you lose weight. When people talk about losing weight, what the really want to do is lose body fat and obtain an attractive figure.</strong></p>
<p><strong>When you eat, the body uses most of the calories for energy. If you eat more calories than the body uses, it will get stored as fat. If you do not consume enough calories per day you will lose weight, but you will also lose energy. When you do not consume enough energy (calories) for your body, it will start using up your energy stores to make up for the energy deficiency. Unfortunately, the energy stores used is not your stored fat, but instead it’s protein and carbohydrates (carbs) that will supply most of the energy (stored fat makes up a very small percentage).</strong></p>
<p><strong>Your body will take the protein and carbohydrates from your muscle cells; causing your muscle mass to reduce (say goodbye to that toned attractive look) which forces your metabolism to decrease (a low metabolism = slow or no fat burning). When this happens your body requires less energy to maintain its new lower body weight (remember the body weight is lower because you loss muscle), which is why your body conserves energy by slowing down the metabolism.</strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Somehow somewhere a myth was developed about how to develop six pack abs. You can NOT burn fat away from only your midsection to reveal your abdominal muscles. It doesn’t matter how many crunches you do, you will not be able to see your abdominal muscles. This is the trap many of us have fallen into. With all the ab machines advertised on TV its no wonder people have the misconception that doing crunches equals a nice ripped midsection. Here are the keys you will need to build the best ab workout ever.</p>
<p>NUTRITION PHASE: Focusing on your nutrition may be the most important component to developing that sexy six pack you seek. Forgetting to consider your diet will be like riding a bike without your front wheel, you wont get far! Here are some dietary items for you to consider.</p>
<p>Increase your Metabolism: Increasing your metabolism will allow your body to burn more calories and fat even during times that you’re not working out. Eat 5-6 meals a day to keep your metabolism burning hot and keep incinerating the fat off your body. Think of your metabolism like building a fire to keep you warm. You must spend a lot of time getting the fire burning (eating breakfast) and then constantly add fuel to keep it burning hot (other small meals).</p>
<p>Lean Protein: Eating lean protein is vital to any fitness diet because it has so many beneficial effects. For fat burning and ab building lean protein takes a long time to digest so you wont have blood sugar spikes like when you eat straight carbohydrates. You may know that when your blood sugar peaks and then drops you feel the cravings to consume starchy carbohydrates and over eat.</p>
<p>Water, Water, Water: Drinking a minimum of 8 cups of water a day will not only keep the toxins flushed out of your body but will also prevent dehydration. If you’re working out regularly, like you should, then you’ll need lots of water to replace what you lose during your workout.</p>
<p>Fiber: Think of fiber as lubricant to your digestive tract. Keeping high amounts of fiber in your stomach keeps food moving quickly through your digestive and intestinal tract which will keep you in overall good health.</p>
<p>WORKOUT PHASE: CARDIOVASCULAR: It is important to do cardiovascular exercise to burn fat. It is more important to keep your workouts short and intense. This is counter intuitive to what most people think. By keeping your workouts very intense and short you will basically kick start your metabolism into high gear. Find things you like to do as that will keep you motivated to continue your program.</p>

flat and toned abdominals?&#034; It &#039;s not an easy question to address, since there are hundreds of abdominal<br />
exercises.<br />
<a  href="http://www.fitnessbootcampscanada.com"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-567" title="ballcrunch" src="http://www.fitnessbootcampscanada.com/Wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/ballcrunch.jpg" alt="ballcrunch" width="311" height="231" /></a><br />
Let &#039;s face it. Our eyes gravitate towards a flat and well toned abdominal region . We all want that elusive<br />
flat, firm and enviable look of &#039;washboard abs&#039;. The muscles of your abdominal region, and indeed the<br />
midsection aren&#039;t isolated; they weave through your torso like a web of high-tensile steel, and it &#039;s critical to<br />
train them the right way.<span id="more-566"></span></p>
<p>So how do you get results fast ? A recent study by the American Council on Exercise has the answer. Let<br />
&#039;s discover the 3 most effective exercises to get flat abdominals, the correct way to breathe during<br />
abdominal exercises and tips and tricks to get results faster. I have integrated these exercises to help<br />
thousands of clients get results.<br />
A California study conducted by the American Council on Exercise has determined that the classic sit-up<br />
is not the best answer for stronger, flatter abdominals. The conclusions were intriguing, to say the least.<br />
The traditional sit-up was among the least effective abdominal muscle exercises.<br />
Sit-ups (in which you raise your trunk up from the floor with your knees straight or bent) involve the hip<br />
muscles disproportionately relative to the abdominals. This means the hip muscles work more and the<br />
abdominal muscles work less i.e they are not getting trained in the right manner. In addition, there is an<br />
unnecessary (and potentially harmful) strain on the lower back. The sit-up is not only ineffective, but<br />
potentially harmful.<br />
There &#039;s more, and it &#039;s equally surprising. The study indicated that several gadgets for the abdominals<br />
were either ineffective or marginally more effective than a regular abdominal crunch, which doesn&#039;t cost<br />
you anything, other than the time required to learn the right technique.<br />
Now for the big news. The top three abdominal muscle exercises were:<br />
The Bicycle maneuver.<br />
The Captains Chair.<br />
Crunch on an exercise ball.<br />
For best results.<br />
Start with 2-3 sets of each exercise, 8-10 repetitions. Increase by 8-10 repetitions each week till you work<br />
your way up to a set of 40 repetitions in each set. 2 sets of 35-40 repetitions a day for the abdominals is<br />
ideal, and you do not need to train more than that.<br />
Breathing during abdominal muscle exercises.<br />
With all abdominal muscle exercises, exhale as you contract / exert / come up / crunch your abdominals;<br />
inhale as you relax / lower / return to the starting position.<br />
Points to remember.<br />
1. If you have lower back injuries or pain, consult a doctor before you begin, so you don&#039;t hurt yourself.<br />
Also see a physician if you are over 35, have been sedentary for a long time, have high blood pressure<br />
and/or cholesterol, are a smoker, have chest pains or shortness of breath or have had a joint or muscle<br />
injury.<br />
2. It &#039;s not the number of repetitions, but the quality and technique that gets results. Overdoing sit-ups can<br />
hurt your lower back. Besides, the best way to get those flat lower abdominal muscles is to be patient for<br />
8-10 weeks, eat a healthy diet and do regular aerobic exercise.<br />

The study tracked physical activity levels of more than 800 young adults for more than two years. It found that while physical activity declined among all participants during that span, it took the biggest hit among new parents.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;">That&#039;s despite the fact that new parents often feel like they are always on the go, says researcher Ethan E. Fine, MEd, an exercise physiologist candidate at the University of Pittsburgh.</span></p>

Your own physical activity just isn&#039;t as important as the attention you&#039;re giving that child.&#034;</span></p>

I want to be the grandfather who can play with his grand kids no problem. It’s very far off from now, but it starts now for me” says Fine.</span></p>

<p>When you&#039;re stretched for time or crave a little time to yourself, Fine says, exercise can actually be a sanctuary, giving you time away from the kids and your spouse. It’s better than going for the quick fix, like going shopping, stopping for a latte, or watching TV.</p>
<p>&#034;Somewhere along the line you&#039;re substituting a long-term goal for something short term,&#034; says Fine. &#034;In the long run, quick fixes are not going to benefit you.&#034;</p>
<p><strong>Exercise Tip for Parents No. 4: Cultivate Social Support<br />
</strong>Having a parent, a friend, or in this case Von Kidz to whom you can entrust the care of your children will pay dividends.</p>
<p>&#034;A lot [of what happens with an exercise routine] depends on the opportunity [a parent] has to leave the child and do exercise outside the home,&#034; says Fine.</p>
<p><strong>Exercise Tip for Parents No. 5: Establish Family Fitness<br />
</strong>If you want your children to know the value of fitness, show them you exercise. Be a role model for your kids, no matter what age they are.</p>
<p>No matter what you say to your kids they will always do what they see you do, says Fine. While they nap during the day, fit in some fitness &#8212; doing basic lunges, squats, push-ups, and crunches.</p>
<p>&#034;These are all things that don&#039;t require any equipment or space and don&#039;t take a lot of time,&#034; Fine says.</p>
<p>Along with that the family that exercises together stays together. With preschool to school-aged children, strive for family fitness. Go to the park, ride bikes, hike, and swim while the weather&#039;s nice. In the winter, ice-skate, snowshoe, cross-country ski, or go sledding.</p>
<p>&#034;Physical activity time also provides a great opportunity to talk with your kids,&#034; adds Fine. &#034;But sometimes, just doing something with them is worth more than we realize.&#034;</p>
<p>Bottom line?</p>
<p>&#034;Your desire to be physically active with your child will usually force a creative solution to do so,&#034; says Fine. &#034;You may be the only parent who is jogging around your kid&#039;s soccer practice field, but your kid will get used to it.&#034;</p>
<p><strong>Exercise Tip for Parents No. 6: Set Goals </strong></p>
<p>The very first step to staying fit or regaining fitness is to want it, say experts.</p>
<p>&#034;Motivation comes from within,&#034; says Fine. &#034;I can&#039;t motivate someone if they don&#039;t have a reason to do something.&#034;</p>
<p>Set short-term goals, says Fine, so as not to overwhelm yourself. If it&#039;s four sizes you need to lose, start with one. If it&#039;s 20 pounds, set a more manageable goal of 1-3 pounds per week.</p>
<p>Don’t be afraid to also say, &#039;I want to run a marathon,&#039;&#034; says Fine. &#034;That&#039;s not too big.&#034;</p>
<p>That would be a long term goal. Make sure though, you set the short term ones as well. Goals have to be realistic, says Fine: &#034;If your goal is to look like Kelly Ripa or Angelina Jolie overnight, your determination is going to be crushed if you work out and eat yogurt for a week and you don&#039;t look like them.&#034;</p>
<p>My motto is “Don’t give up ever” says Fine.</p>
<p><strong>Exercise Tip for Parents No. 7: Put In the Effort<br />
</strong>Don&#039;t expect to get fit overnight, warns Fine. &#034;It&#039;s a matter of putting time in. Anything worth having is hard. There is work involved.&#034;<br />
You have to view fitness as a lifestyle change not a temporary diet or gimmick to get yourself in shape for only one occasion.</p>
<p>But, you say, fitting in work and everything needed to run a household is hard enough. Who needs the added pressure of squeezing in a workout?</p>
<p>The truth is that exercise will actually give you more energy to tackle the tasks always hanging over your head.</p>
<p>And somewhere along the line exercise will become a habit.</p>
<p>&#034;People always ask me how long it&#039;s going to take,&#034; he says. &#034;Everybody wants that quick fix.&#034;</p>
<p>It may take a month, it may take a year, he says, but when you reach a goal you set on your own, it&#039;s much more rewarding.</p>
<p><strong>Exercise Tip for Parents No. 8: Be a Role Model<br />
</strong>Whether they admit it or not, kids look to their parents as role models.</p>
<p>&#034;What you do has a huge effect on what they do,&#034; says Fine, who works with youth from 9 to 18.</p>
<p>If you&#039;re a couch potato, you may pass that trait on to your children. Just like most kids of adult parent who smoke will end up probably smoking as well. On the other hand, if kids grow up in a family where they walk the dog, hike, or go for bike rides, they will emulate that behavior, says Fine.</p>
<p>&#034;When trying to teach kids discipline,&#034; says Fine, &#034;you as a parent should have some as well.&#034;</p>

The definitely do NOT follow all the same principals and training programs. One program that is followed by Fitness Boot Camps Canada is called the muscle confusion training principle.</p>
<p>One                of the most basic, and most important of the training principles,                is the muscle confusion training principle. It&#039;s very similar to the overload training principle. This principle is all                about ensuring you have a variety in your workouts. This will be                a variety of sets, reps, exercises, rest periods, etc. It is also                important to train the muscle from the most efficient position,                in which it has the greatest mechanical advantage and stress.<span id="more-464"></span></p>
<p align="left">It remains critically important to supplement those                exercises with others utilizing various angles for certain exercises.                Muscles should never be allowed to adapt to an exercise to                the point where the exercise is ineffective and doesn&#039;t result in                hypertrophy or the goal you were looking for. This variety will                improve your motivation, keep you mentally fresh, and keep your                muscles growing.</p>
<p align="left">A training principle that states that muscles accommodate                to a specific type of stress (habituate or plateau, also called                homeostasis) when the same stress is continually applied to the                muscles over time, there one must constantly vary exercises, sets,                reps and weight to avoid accommodation.</p>
<p align="left">The body should never be allowed to accommodate to                an exercise to the point where the exercise is ineffective and results                are no longer seen. Integrating variety also improves motivation,                keeps one mentally fresh, and allows muscles to continually adapt.                Muscle confusion works best for general physical preparedness programs                or for breaking out of a plateau during conventional periodization-based                programs.</p>
<p align="left">With traditional programs that are planned around                specific cycles, overloads, etc., it is possible to change a workout                too frequently to experience optimal performance. In cases where                the goal is hypertrophy or absolute strength, it is recommended                to only use muscle confusion when the body habituates.</p>
<p align="left">To                reduce body fat, inevitably you need to take in fewer calories than                you expend. The timeless energy expenditure factor dictates that                the less you eat, the more you lose. No one is saying this is the                only factor, but the fact is, it is a factor. This is one essential                obvious rule of thumb to burning away that layer of subcutaneous                fat. It is a simple fact that if you were to consume too many calories,                then your body has no need to dip into its emergency reserves of                fat for energy.</p>
<p align="left">Dropping your calorie intake below what your body                needs on a daily basis will result in fat loss<a  id="KonaLink1" class="kLink" style="text-decoration: underline ! important; position: static;" href="http://www.shapefit.com/confusion-principle.html#" target="undefined"></a>, there is too                little energy coming in, so your body needs to take energy from                somewhere to function, and that is all your fat really is, i.e.,                stored energy.</p>
<p align="left">Your body will adapt over time, and the only way to                get a further reduction in body fat will be to reduce calories again.                Eventually, you reduce calories so much that energy levels suffer,                training quality decreases and muscle loss increases. And this is,                of course, disastrous. You end up wasting away and become primed                to achieve the exact opposite of what you set out to achieve. This                means that as soon as calories increase you increase in all the                ways you don&#039;t want to by becoming fatter and fatter and fatter                than before. All of the diets you read about on this web site are                aimed to counteract this effect. The method described below is one                very successful method to trick the body out of this adaptive response.</p>
<p align="left"><strong>Adaptation to Environmental Stimulus</strong><br />
What follows is the adaptation process your body follows to protect                its fat reserves in an attempt to maintain the status quo. However,                this program is designed to limit the body&#039;s ability to adapt to                a new regular, and typically low on a standard fat loss diet, by                confusing it. Rather than reducing calories constantly, it&#039;s based                on a rotating level of calories, so that your body is never felt                in a constant state of calorie reduction.

<p align="left">It is only when you expose your body to a lack of                calories for an extended time period that it rebels against your                efforts to shed fat, and adapts. Why does it do this and how?</p>
<p align="left">Of course, your body wants to retain as much fat as                possible, since this is the essential emergency energy that it has                for survival. If you were ever placed into a state or environment                of famine, this would make sense. But, don&#039;t forget people used                to live in a world, where food was scarcer and it had to be hunted                and foraged. Man was never able to be gluttonous of greedy on hamburgers                and apple pie in the wild, and man was far more active than watching                TV, surfing the net or standing on the sidelines of life.</p>
<p align="left">So this is actually what your body is primed and programmed                for; periods of feeding and periods of famine. During famine periods                your body is primed to excel at the function of retaining fat, and                getting fatter as soon as more food arrived, to survive the next                famine period. You, as a body builder or athlete, want to get as                far from this scenario as possible, except the &#039;being active&#039; part.</p>
<p align="left">Now we know your body adapts. It can only trigger                an adaptive response like this, specifically when it is exposed                to the necessary stimulus over a certain period of time. We also                know that under eating burns off excess body fat. Now the cyclic                principle of this diet can be incorporated into any of the other                fat loss programs to further enhance its effect.</p>
<p align="left"><strong>Putting It Together</strong><br />
More                specifically, this program takes three different calorie levels                that average out a little below maintenance level. By using a different                calorie level each day your body never gets into a position where                it adapts to being under fed, consequently you can make consistent                body fat loss over a longer period of time.</p>
<p align="left"><strong>What Can I Expect To See?</strong><br />

<p>The best case scenario is that you notice you&#039;re starting to get                bored and you introduce a new set of routines. You&#039;re using the                Muscle Confusion Principle. The immediate result is renewed interest                and excitement; your whole body wakes up and you start enjoying                the process once again as you start to make new strength gains.</p>

For example, if you were doing a barbell incline chest press, you                could use a hammer strength incline machine one week and then the                following week you could do a dumbbell incline press. While you&#039;re                still working the upper chest muscles, you&#039;re hitting them from                a different angle and this will stimulate new muscle growth.</p>
<p>By actively implementing the confusion principle you&#039;re guaranteeing                yourself consistent results in your fitness and resistance training                workout.</p>

A little Buddha belly may be cute on a three-year-old,  but the thirtysomething-and-holding crowd needs a more streamlined physique for  swimsuit season &#8211; more hourglass and less pear-shape.</p>
<p>Women who  like to pull on a one-piece, sans sarong, for the beach,they need  to  challenge their wobbly bits to some new classes and revive their  flagging fitness  regimen.</p>
<p>As a expert I  insist that doing the same old exercise routine causes your fitness  level to plateau. Clocking 30-minute segments on the treadmill and then lugging  yourself through a weight circuit (almost) three times a week gets old if you  don&#039;t mix it up. So, where do you start? <p>Boot camp: Those are two scary words for a casual exerciser whose closest  encounter with the aforementioned regimen is watching episodes of the <em>Desperate housewives Bootcamp</em> with the ex-football pro drilling his victims into fitness  cadets. These weight-loss shows are at their most entertaining when you&#039;re  cozied up on the couch with a handful of barbecue-flavoured Doritos, but I  digress.</p>

<p>Allan Fine, the camp&#039;s founder and personal trainer, opens the class with a  cautionary pep talk: &#034;Be prepared to be sore the next day.&#034;</p>
<p>He&#039;s med tall, slim and energetic and much better than the  &#034;drop-and-give-me-20-you-maggots&#034; drill sergeant I was subconsciously dreading.  Go has a big smile and talks about teamwork and supporting each other&#039;s  progress. He&#039;s Mr. Positivity, my new self-help guide to a skinnier, happier  me.</p>
<p>But you know what they say about first impressions.</p>
<p>We introduce ourselves. Some of the twentysomethings want to look good for  the summer, the thirtysomethings want to melt some fat and a few over-45s are  here to try something besides Jenny Craig to beat the middle-aged spread.</p>
<p>Now, the pre-workout stretch: We lie on our mats, bring up our knees and roll  our hips to one side and then the other, to get out all the kinks from  cubicle-land.</p>
<p>Ten minutes later, the fat-blasting begins in earnest:weight training, sit-ups, jumping  jacks, squats, mountain-climbers (where you crouch down with your hands planted  on the floor and move your legs like you&#039;re scrambling up steep terrain) and  push-ups &#8211; lady-style from your knees if need be &#8211; with submachine gun-like  speed. Oh, and did I mention the plank? That&#039;s the one designed for washboard  abs where you&#039;re face down, your forearms solid and legs extended while you  perch on the balls of your feet. This is a yoga move that starts out easy and  quickly becomes a killer.</p>
<p>The moves are designed to provide the most effective way to work out in  short, intensive intervals. Go has notes on a flipchart for reference, but I&#039;m  focused on getting through the workout.</p>
<p>The music&#039;s pumping and, in groups of three or four, we rotate through the  series of exercises while Go corrects our form and yells out his most  encouraging phrases: &#034;Hey, you can do it!&#034; &#034;C&#039;mon, let&#039;s step it up!&#034; &#034;I want to  see faster jumping jacks. Faster!&#034;</p>
<p>He&#039;s not in-your-face-pushy, but the 46-year-old is watching, scouring the  room for stragglers and slow-movers. What ever happened to working at your own  pace? After 45 minutes, my bangs are stuck to my forehead, and I&#039;m shaky with  exhaustion.</p>
<p>But you can&#039;t help smiling with his team-building huddle and group cheer of  &#034;One, two, three: Be sexy!&#034; at the end of the class.</p>
<p>The program, Go says, is a quick fix &#8211; 3- 5 times a  week for four &#8211; sixteen weeks, including  a detailed diet change and motivational coaching calls to do at home .  Most of his clients lose five- ten pounds or so, tone and drop a size or two.</p>
<p>It&#039;s guaranteed to work or your money back.</p>
<p>&#034;One woman came to two boot camps and lost 25 pounds,&#034; Fine says. He went  through a flabby period himself when he was 13 and then got hooked on  weight-training . &#034;Results keep them coming back,&#034; he says.  &#034;It&#039;s really cool and I&#039;m totally geeked up about it.&#034;</p>
<p>The next day, I&#039;m feeling a little stiff but pretty good. The day after, I&#039;m  hobbling slightly up stairs. Would I go back? Yes. Not because I&#039;m into pain,  but I could tell it was going to work!</p>

<p>This is definitely the case for many of our clients, it can be your solution too if you have many years of weight loss failures and the yo-yo dieting.</p>
<p>I know that an awful lot of the emotional eating can be traced back to this kind of drama. Most of my clients do fine, until the scale started being uncooperative&#8211;which, of course, it always did, and not just once in a while. Then they end up feeling extremely frustrated and hopeless, not only about losing weight but about almost everything. All because they gained a pound or didn’t lose as much as they expected.</p>
<p>So, what’s really going on here? How did the number on the scale become so important that it could literally determine someones mood and how they felt about life?</p>
<p>After training my clients for 20 years and looking back now, I can see that they had developed a bad case of weight loss tunnel vision. This is what happens when you start thinking that losing weight is the key to everything that really matters to you.</p>
<p>They were counting on weight loss to solve lots of problems and produce many other benefits. Improving health, looking more attractive, feeling better about themselves and their bodies, being able to do more of the things they wanted to do, living longer, getting a good job, finding a good relationship&#8211;in their minds, all of these things depended on getting to their weight loss goals. And, of course, every little set back on the scale made them feel like everything that was important to them was slipping further away, and there wasn&#039;t much they could do about it.</p>
<p>Needless to say, it’s pretty hard to stay motivated when you’re dealing with that kind of pressure, stress and frustration. More importantly, focusing most of their attentions on losing weight kept them from doing the things that actually could have helped them achieve the goals that really mattered the most to them. With the <a href="http://www.fitnessbootcampscanada.com">Boot Camp</a> Program I developed Most that that stress is taken away.</p>
<p>During more recent and successful weight loss efforts, things were very different. My Clients finally figured out that losing weight can’t do very much except make them weigh less. They realized that, by itself, losing weight wasn&#039;t going to make all their other problems go away, or make my other goals happen by themselves, without direct effort on their parts.<br />
So, if you&#039;re having problems with your mood and your motivation when you have a bad weigh-in or a less than perfect food day, here&#039;s what I suggest.</p>
<p># First, create your own personal Vision Statement. This can include a verbal and/or pictorial expression of where you want to be in one (or two, or five) years, not only with your weight, but with all important aspects of your life. Your Vision Statement should include several specific long-term goals that will help you get where you want to be. And be sure to ask yourself whether you really need to see a lower number on the scale before you can start working on these goals.</p>
<p># Second, create some strategies, or short-term and intermediate goals, that will give you specific targets to aim for right now, and help you keep your weight loss efforts in the proper perspective. Start tracking your progress on these goals, as well as your weight loss.</p>
